I want to replace my quadrajet with an aftermarket carb. Someone told me that the edelbrocks would not work with the shaker hood. I didnt get any specifics (story of my life :o ). I would prefer to use the Edel. over a Holley but anything is better than the leaky QJ.
So, will the holley work with the shaker? Is there any way to modify the stock shaker assembly to work with the Edel. performer? I really do not want to attach the scoop to the hood (its just not right).

Same suggestion as I made to Hugh (with the '71 Formula)...check with the people at the Trans Am Country forum (www.transamcountry.com (http://www.transamcountry.com)). There's plenty over there who should know the answer. Since I haven't had a problem with my Quadrajet carb, I haven't bothered to look for alternate ones. I should think, however, that there are replacement carbs that would work. But the TAC forum guys should know for sure.

The Performer RPM manifold doesn't work with the shaker without bolting the air cleaner to the hood, but the carb (#1407 and #1411) should. It isn't that tall.

You can also get spacer plates to adjust the height, if needed. For me it won't do much good, my scoop sits too low, but it's one of the early '77 low profile ones. Only way around it is probably to replace it.

i have a 75 t/a with the pontiac performer manifold and a holley 650. I got the shaker to work by using a filter that was 3/8 inch shorter, with the stock filter in there the air cleaner cover would hit inside the shaker and the ring to hold it on would not work so i cut about 2 inches off the diameter of the cover. now it works with the proper filter

I am not sure if your car is stock and if you want to keep it that way but I would use a demon carb. If you want to keep your car stock looking then go to yahoo and search for a performance q-jet. There are companys that specialize in performance q-jets.
