I've had this car for year and a half. Has 120,000 miles on it. Back in November it started stalling once in a while. The check engine light came on. Took it in. Tech said it needed a MAF sensor replaced. Did it.

Weeks later, it started stalling again. This time, tech said fuel pump wasn't getting proper voltage. Replaced pump. Weeks later, it started stalling again.

So, instead of continuing to throw money at the car, I decided to drive it until it would stall and not start again. That was 4 months ago. And the car continues to stall but always starts again. But, it seems to be getting worse.

Here's what happens: The car almost always stalls about ten minutes after starting the car cold. It shuts off like no gas is going to engine. Within a snap of the fingers, it's off. No hesitating. Nothing. But always about 10 minutes after starting it cold. But, if I go somewhere, let the car sit for like 2 hours, come back out, start it and drive--and it's never had a chance to cool down the whole way--it runs with no problems.

When it stalls, it usually starts right back up. Recently though, it's getting harder to re-start. Maybe like 10 seconds of cranking before starting.

No check engine lights. No codes. Still has great power when it's running. It gets the mpg it should.

I'm wondering if there could be some problem with the computer going from closed loop to open loop. Is that possible? Like it gets confused, so it shuts everything down. And then starting it back up clears everything out and then it runs fine. Any ideas out there?

Did you clean your throttle body out real good? also try to shoot it with seafoam when the car is on..sounds like your ride is gunked up and plugging up when the gunk is cold, then liquefy's when it's nice and warm..but I can't say for sure..you should also take the iac out clean it and the port it goes into..

An update:

Had to pick dad up at airport today. Started car and let it idle before I left. Went back inside. Ten minutes later didn't hear car. Went outside. Car had stalled. Turned key, started right back. Looked at temp. gauge--it had stalled right when it reached operating temperature (essentially first long hash on temp. gauge). Drove it, picked up dad, and came home, about an hour total. No problems. Ran great. Didn't stall or even attempt to stall. Very strange . . .

GTP stalling

My 99 GTP use to have an intermittent stalling problem, it would feel like you shut the key off at 70mph, but would keep on running because of the speed. At slower speeds it would stall but I could start it right up. It usually would happen more on hotter days. I got advice on-line, where a guy replaced the throttle position sensor, I replaced mine last week and haven't had a problem so far. Depending on labor you can get it done for about $195-$250. The part is relatively cheap, the major cost is the labor. If you have the tools to pull the crankshaft pulley off (the TPS is right behind the pulley) you can do it yourself.

The throttle position sensor, TPS, is located on the throttle body. The part behind the crankshaft pully is the crankshaft position sensor, CPS.
